Terms & Conditions
Last updated: June 2025
These terms and conditions ("Terms") apply to the watch repair and inspection services provided by Cogsmith at 210 Thanon Phuket, Talat Yai, Phuket 83000, Thailand ("we", "us", "our"). By leaving a watch with us for service or inspection, you ("you", "the client") agree to these Terms.
Please read them before bringing a watch in. If anything is unclear, we are happy to explain before any work begins.
1. Services
We offer the following workshop services:
- Quartz Care & Seal Check — cell replacement, gasket inspection and water-resistance pressure testing for quartz watches.
- Pre-Owned Inspection — a written condition assessment covering movement health, case integrity and service needs.
- Mechanical Movement Service — full strip-down, cleaning, lubrication, reassembly and timing regulation of mechanical calibers.
All services are carried out at our Phuket workshop. We do not currently offer a postal or courier service for watches.
2. Estimates and pricing
Published prices are provided as a guide for standard service work in normal condition. We will confirm the applicable price when your watch is booked in, following a brief initial inspection.
If, during the course of a service, we identify additional work that would materially affect the cost, we will pause and contact you before proceeding. No additional charges will be incurred without your prior agreement.
All prices are inclusive of labour and standard parts unless otherwise stated. Parts that fall outside standard scope — for example, specialist components for unusual calibers — will be quoted separately.
3. Booking in and authorisation
Service work begins only after you have handed the watch to us and confirmed, verbally or in writing, that you wish the service to proceed. For more involved services, we may ask you to sign a brief service authorisation form.
By leaving your watch with us, you confirm that you are the rightful owner of the piece, or that you have the owner's permission to have it serviced.
4. Turnaround times
We will provide an estimated collection date when you book your watch in. Turnaround times vary depending on the service type and current workshop schedule:
- Quartz Care & Seal Check — typically 1–2 working days.
- Pre-Owned Inspection — typically half a day to 1 working day.
- Mechanical Movement Service — typically 5–10 working days.
These are estimates, not commitments. If a delay arises — due to parts availability, an unexpected finding, or workshop capacity — we will let you know as soon as possible.
5. Collection and uncollected watches
We will contact you when your watch is ready for collection. Payment is due at the time of collection.
Watches must be collected within 60 days of the notification that they are ready. After this period, we reserve the right to charge a small storage fee. Watches left uncollected for more than 12 months, with no contact from the owner despite our reasonable attempts to reach them, may be considered abandoned.
6. Care of your watch
We handle all watches in our care with appropriate attention. Standard workshop precautions are taken for all pieces regardless of value.
When you leave your watch with us, we will note its condition at intake — any pre-existing scratches, wear, damage or missing parts. You are encouraged to check and agree on this record at the point of booking in.
We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or wear that was present before the watch was left with us.
7. Limitation of liability
We take care in all service work. However, some mechanical and electronic components in older or heavily worn watches carry inherent risk during service. We will advise you in advance if we identify a watch where service carries an elevated risk of component failure.
Our liability is limited to the cost of the service carried out. We do not accept liability for the market value of a watch unless a separate written agreement covering valuation has been made.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for negligence causing personal injury or death, or for fraud.
8. Pre-Owned Inspection — scope and limitations
The Pre-Owned Inspection service produces a written condition report based on our assessment of the watch at the time of inspection. The report reflects our observations and is informational in nature.
The report is not a valuation, an authentication certificate, or a statement of market price. It is not a substitute for legal or professional advice and does not constitute a warranty regarding the future performance of the piece.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Thailand. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms or the services we provide will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Thai courts.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the date of the most recent revision noted at the top. Continued use of our services after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
