Brought my daily Seiko in for a battery and seal check. The whole thing was done the next morning and they explained the pressure test result when I collected it. I didn't know that was something you could even check properly. Will come back when it's due again.

Used Cogsmith for a pre-owned inspection before buying a vintage automatic off a local seller. The written report they produced was very clear — condition noted section by section, with honest notes about what would need attention soon. Helped me negotiate the price. Took about four hours.

Had my husband's mechanical watch serviced here. It had been sitting for years before we moved to Thailand and we weren't sure it could be brought back to use. They stripped it down, cleaned it and it's been keeping time well since. The timing bench readout was something I hadn't expected — it showed exactly how well it was regulating.

I was sceptical that a workshop this small would have the right equipment. They do. Pressure tester, timing bench — not everywhere has these. The price for the mechanical service is honest given what's included. Communication throughout was better than I've had at much bigger places.

Wanida Phromthai

Bangkae, Bangkok (visiting)

Visited while on holiday and dropped off a quartz piece that had been running irregularly. They diagnosed it the same afternoon — turned out to be contact corrosion, not just the battery. Fixed it quickly. The quartz service price covers the seal test too, which I only found out when I got there — good to know upfront next time.

Brought an inherited piece here for a pre-owned inspection before deciding whether to service it fully. The report was detailed and written in a way I could actually understand — no jargon, just clear notes. They recommended the full mechanical service, which I booked, and it's running well. Two separate visits, both handled properly.

Three watch stories in detail

Case Study 01 — Quartz Care

Fogged dial on a daily diver

Challenge

Owner noticed condensation inside the crystal after a pool session. Battery had been replaced at a mall kiosk six months earlier with no seal work done.

Service

Full quartz service: case opened, old gasket removed, new gasket fitted, new battery, case sealed and tested on the pressure rig to 5 ATM.

Result

Condensation cleared within a day of seal work. Watch passed pressure test. Owner collected the next morning with service notes and test reading.

"I didn't know a pressure test was even something you could do for a consumer watch. They showed me the rig and the reading when I collected — that was reassuring."

Case Study 02 — Pre-Owned Inspection

Private sale assessment, vintage automatic

Challenge

Buyer found a 1970s automatic on a local marketplace. Seller claimed it was in working order; buyer had no way to independently verify the movement condition or case integrity.

Service

Full pre-owned inspection covering movement function, case wear, dial and hands condition, crown and stem function, and an honest service-needs assessment.

Result

Written report noted a slightly worn mainspring and minor bezel damage not visible in photos. Buyer used the report to negotiate and went ahead at a lower price with full knowledge of upcoming service cost.

"Having a document to show the seller made the conversation much easier. They couldn't argue with the written findings."

Case Study 03 — Mechanical Service

Long-stored automatic, unknown condition

Challenge

Inherited automatic from a family member. Had not been wound or serviced in roughly eight years. Running but inconsistently — gaining over four minutes per day in some positions.

Service

Full mechanical service: complete strip-down, ultrasonic cleaning, re-lubrication by component, reassembly, and multi-position timing regulation over seven working days.

Result

Timing bench showed +3 seconds per day in dial-up, +6 in crown-down. Owner collected with the full timing sheet. Watch running well two months on.

"They kept me updated mid-service. Seven working days felt reasonable for the amount of work involved. The timing sheet was a detail I hadn't expected."
